What is a “Shared Society?”

The New Israel Fund has always advanced a vision of Israel that values social unity and inclusion and rejects racism and discrimination.

Despite heightened incitement against Israel’s minorities, a growing number of Israelis of all backgrounds are declaring loudly that racism and exclusion have no place in their society. This concert is a public declaration that the Boston community stands with those working for a shared society.

Mira Awad is a perfect spokesperson for a shared society in Israel. Her story and music tell of overcoming the discrimination she has faced as a woman and a Palestinian citizen of Israel and have inspired audiences worldwide. Notably, she and popular Israeli singer Noa represented Israel at Eurovision 2009, singing “There Must Be Another Way” amidst the height of fighting in Gaza. Since then, she has worked to ensure fair representation of Israel’s Arab citizens in the country’s media.
